Summerfield man and Ocala guy pal jailed after caught in stolen pickup truck

Daniel Alexander Boone

A Summerfield man with a history of local arrests and his Ocala man friend were jailed Thursday after they were caught in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 441 from Sunset Harbor Road when he saw a green Ford Ranger that had been reported stolen. The deputy stopped the vehicle after it pulled into a plaza in the 12200 block of U.S. Hwy. 441.

Both its driver, 42-year-old Daniel Alexander Boone, and his passenger, 58-year-old Stephen Edward Hoop, were then taken into custody. A computer check showed that Boone’s driver’s license had been suspended in April 2013 after he was caught driving under the influence in Columbia County. It also was suspended in September 2019 in connection with a previous controlled substance charge, a sheriff’s office report states.

Stephen Edward Hoop

Both Boone and Hoop were transported to the Marion County Jail. Boone, who lives at 9130 SE 154th Ln. in Summerfield, was charged with driving while license suspended (second offense). He was being held on $1,000 bond and is due in court June 18 at 9 a.m.

Hoop was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle. He was being held on $5,000 bond and is due in court June 23 at 9 a.m.

Boone is no stranger to the tri-county legal system. In March, he was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy on S. U.S. Hwy. 441 in Summerfield. He claimed he had borrowed the blue Honda SUV he was driving and was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.

In December 2016, Boone was issued a summons to appear in Lake County Court for possession of a small bag of marijuana after being forced at gunpoint to rent a room for another man at the La Hacienda Hotel in The Villages.

In April 2016, Boone – one of the victims of a golf club attack by another man – was arrested in Sumter County after he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug equipment. And in December 2015, he was issued a notice to appear in court after a shoplifting incident at the Summerfield Wal-Mart.
