The Wildwood Police Department is seeking help from the public after a man was killed in a robbery described as a drug deal that went bad.

The man who was killed has been identified as 21-year-old Jermaine Jordan.

Officers responded at about 6 p.m. Monday to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of High Street and County Road 242. It was initially determined these reports were in reference to a single incident and involved a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Shortly after officers arrived on scene, they were told that two vehicles fled the area immediately after the shooting. One vehicle was described to officers as a white passenger vehicle with no other defining characteristics and the other was a gray Nissan SUV. Shortly after receiving this information the gray Nissan was observed traveling southbound on Interstate 75 at a high rate of speed. It was determined that the victim on scene was originally an occupant of the grey SUV.

The gray SUV was located in the area of Webster by Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office who were assisting with the investigation. At the scene in Webster, officers and deputies discovered additional victims from the shooting. One victim was transported with life threatening injuries. Jordan was declared deceased on scene for a total of three known victims. Officers on scene were also advised that there may have been two additional occupants who abandoned the vehicle and ultimately left the three victims behind without any medical assistance.

Evidence was collected from both scenes which included but not limited to ski masks, a Glock-style pistol and casings. At this time, it is believed that this incident was an attempted robbery during a drug deal.

The Wildwood Police Department is requesting that if anyone has any information regarding this murder, contact the department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Police are also asking that residents in the area check any cameras they have that may have captured anything regarding this incident.
