A Village of Citrus Grove woman could face $500 fines if lawn problems persist at her home.

The home owned by Dawn Minikel at 6229 Siverson Terrace was the subject of a deed compliance hearing Monday at the District Office at Brownwood.

The first complaint about her lawn was received on Aug. 16 by Community Standards. The complaint was due to dead grass and weeds. Community Standards spoke with Minikel, who said she was working to correct the problem. Followup letters were sent on Sept. 16 and Oct. 3. The property was brought into compliance on Oct. 18.

However, another complaint was received on May 9 when the weeds returned. This time, Minikel was issued a notice of public hearing, sent to her by regular mail and certified mail.

During Monday’s public hearing, the problem at Minikel’s home was officially declared a “re-occurring violation.” While the home was found to be in compliance as of a July 2 inspection, if the weeds return and the lawn is not in compliance at any point within the next 12 months, Minikel could face $500 daily fines until the property is brought back into compliance.

Minikel purchased the home in 2021 for $213,300.
