Villager Ed McGinty has been keeping up his golf-cart street corner protests demanding the release of the Epstein files. He’s been at it for 38 straight days.
President Trump continues to insist the furor of the Epstein files is the result of a Democratic hoax.
But the president appears to be losing ground with some of his most ardent supporters, including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who has pledged her loyalty to Trump in her visits to The Villages.
Greene, who in 2021 packed the house at the Brownwood Hotel in an appearance with then-U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, was among the four House Republicans this past week who joined all Democrats in signing on to a discharge petition, demanding the release of the Epstein files. That petition is likely to force a vote next week in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Trump is so angry at Greene that he announced on Truth Social that he is withdrawing his previous endorsement of her re-election. Trump’s post prompted Laura Loomer, who nearly knocked off Congressman Daniel Webster in an upstart primary challenge in 2022, to tease the possibility of moving to Georgia and taking on Greene in a primary.
With the increased focus on the Epstein files creating fissures in the MAGA coalition, McGinty sets up his signs each day at a street corner here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.
“See, I don’t care, unlike MAGA, if these files contain the name of Democrats or Republicans. I want these sick men brought to justice. If you have a daughter and love your daughter, you too should join me at 4 p.m. on the corners here in The Villages,” McGinty said.
