A Lady Lake man was arrested for driving with a suspended license, along with marijuana and methamphetamine on his person.
A deputy responded to an undisclosed residence in Lady Lake regarding a suspicious person around 7:25 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He was also investigating allegations of a fight between 37-year-old Derek David Jackson and another person.

During this investigation, the deputy learned Jackson had a revoked driver’s license. He also had active suspensions on his license and three prior convictions for driving while his license had been suspended or revoked, the report said.
Despite this, Jackson pulled up to the back of the residence in a gray 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. A subsequent search of his person yielded a white zipped bag labeled “The Essence” in the right pocket of his shorts. It smelled strongly of marijuana when opened and contained green leafy residue, the report said.
Jackson denied having marijuana in his possession. A check with dispatch determined he previously had a medical marijuana card, but it had expired over a year ago. The contents of the bag ultimately tested positive for THC, the report said.
After being arrested for this, Jackson was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center. Jail staff removed him from the back of the patrol car, where the deputy found methamphetamine near the seatbelt, the report said.
Jackson was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked (third or subsequent violation) and drug equipment (possess or use) and possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at the detention center and released after posting $13,000 bond.
He was also arrested in Oct. 2025 on suspicion of burglarizing a golf cart dealership, in Sept. 2025 for riding a motorcycle without a license, in July 2025 for driving with a suspended license, in April 2025 for trespassing at Wawa and in Dec. 2023 for THC.
