An abandoned home with a heavy load of fines was the subject of yet another public hearing in The Villages.

The home is located at 3288 Shelby St. in the Village of Summerhill. Billy and Carolyn Mann, who are both deceased, purchased the home in 2003 for $118,500. The home has been a problem for a decade and, at last check, had been assessed more than $40,000 in fines due to its unkempt condition.

The neighborhood eyesore was back before the Community Development District 3 Board of Supervisors on Friday at Savannah Center.

Community Standards received a complaint April 20 about weeds and shrubs growing into the eaves of the home.

There already have been numerous complaints about the home. In 2024, a plastic cover was spotted on the roof the home. By that time there had already been three previous public hearings due to weeds, overgrown grass, mold on the driveway and overgrown hedges.

In its most recent investigation into the home, Community Standards may have uncovered a bit of good news. Staffers learned that the property, long held by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has been “transferred” to Selene Finance.

Selene “is a mortgage servicer that has serviced hundreds of thousands of loans since 2007,” according to the company website.

Officials are cautiously hopeful that a sale of the home could be in the offing.
