A pedestrian was hit Wednesday morning outside Sonny’s BBQ in The Villages.
The Florida Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate the accident that occurred at 10:18 a.m. and shut down the intersection at Canal Street and Old Camp Road for nearly an hour.

The female pedestrian was trauma alerted to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
It marks the fourth time this year a pedestrian has been hit at or near a town square in The Villages.
On the morning of Feb. 12, 69-year-old Villager Edward Molloy, who is visually impaired, was bumped and knocked down by a 2017 Cadillac SUV while crossing Avenida Central at Del Mar Drive. The driver, 76-year-old Ida May Stagner, of the Village of Del Mar, was turning right and said she didn’t see the pedestrian. She was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield, according to the Lady Lake Police Department.
On Feb. 8, a woman who was attempting to cross the street in the pedestrian crosswalk in front of Johnny Rockets restaurant was hit and knocked down by a SUV turning right onto Old Mill Run from Canal Street. The injured woman was treated at the scene by crews from The Villages Public Safety Department and transported by an American Medical Response ambulance crew to The Villages Regional Hospital after complaining of back pain, officials said.
The driver of the SUV, who said she didn’t see the woman crossing the street, was cited for failure to use due care toward a pedestrian.
On Jan. 22, 79-year-old Francis Thomas Lafferty, of Lady Lake, was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital after he was struck by a car at Spanish Springs Town Square. Lafferty had been crossing Main Street near Gator’s Dockside restaurant shortly before noon when he was hit by a 2015 Honda Civic driven by 68-year-old Vivian Fortier, of the Village of Lynnhaven, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
Lafferty was knocked to the ground and complained of hip pain. Fortier said she had been blinded by the glare of the sun. The report noted that Lafferty was not in a crosswalk.
