A Villager is upset that a waterline replacement project has turned her neighborhood into a “slum.”

Diana Weiburg who lives on Ramirez Avenue in the De La Mesa Courtyard Villas spoke out Friday morning before the Community Development District 1 Board of Supervisors at Savannah Center.

She said the waterline project, which began in May and was supposed to take eight weeks, is almost certainly going to continue into September.

Worse than that, the streets have been torn up and “repairs” have left it looking like a mismatched patchwork.

“It looks like you are driving into a slum. I feel sorry for the two people who are trying to sell their homes,” Weiburg said. “It looks terrible.”

She quoted from a letter residents had received from District Property Management, promising that everything would be restored to “original construction.”

Unfortunately, she did not get good news. She was told that there will be no mill and overlay work on the villa roads and the cut and patch work will remain.
