Wildwood special magistrate blesses large-scale commercial buildings at Trailwinds Village

Two commercial buildings at Trailwinds Village, north of County Road 466A across from Pinellas Plaza, were recommended for approval at a meeting Tuesday of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board.

Special Magistrate W. Grant Watson endorsed the plan to build the 7,980- square-foot and 4,200-square-foot buildings, which will be located between the Taco Bell and Burger King restaurants. The City Commission likely will take final action on the plan later this month.

The pair of single-story buildings, known as The Shoppes II, will house several small commercial spaces. The project also includes 96 parking spaces, including four handicapped spaces.

The Shoppes II is the latest addition planned for Trailwinds Village. A separate, 48,982-square-foot space is reserved for a second food store, possibly a Publix grocery store, to supplement the Aldi supermarket. Besides Aldi, Trailwinds in anchored by a Lowe’s Home Improvement store.

The development will have several fast-food restaurants, including Burger King, Taco Bell and Jersey Mikes. Construction of a Vystar Credit Union branch is well under way. Trailwinds also includes a Circle K gasoline station.

Plans call for 296 homes, 462 assisted living beds, 572,750 square feet of retail space and 151,500 square feet of office space. Storage buildings are planned on the northwest part of the property.

Site development also in process on land west of Trailwinds, a separate development where more homes and businesses are planned.
