George William Derk

George W. Derk, 83, of The Villages, FL, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2017 in the Ocala Regional Hospital Trauma Center. He had been a patient there since August 23rd as a result of sustained injuries from a fall.

George was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church, Charity Lodge 144 F&AM of Lewisburg, PA, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Reading and the Tri-County Penn State University Club. George earned a BS from Bloomsburg University and a MBA from Bucknell University. He was a US Navy Aviator, the Business Manager of the State College Area School District and a Client Executive at IBM for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Vera of 55 years; daughter, Shelli and her husband, Phil Adams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, G. Eric Derk and his wife, Amy of Newtown Square, PA; and four grandchildren, Philip and Libby Adams and Henry and Charlotte Derk.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Wednesday, November 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held later that day in The Villages.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in his name with the Marion Therapeutic Riding Association. Contributions can be sent to: MTRA c/o Ralph Flood, 1419 Hollyberry Place, The Villages, FL 32162.
