We deserve better

To the Editor:

I was appalled Friday morning to learn that our Lifelong Learning College will be summarily closed in four weeks due to a 3-year old lawsuit seeking assistance for deaf students wishing to take LLC courses. I have no problem with assisting our deaf neighbors even if an additional charge per course is need to fund such assistance when needed. What I can’t accept, however, is the enormous disappointment felt by 20,000 – 25,000 Villagers who are now denied access to these courses. Lifelong learning programs exist for retirees across America but, now in America’s friendliest retirement community, we’re summarily denied such programs without any discussion or consideration of options. We deserve better …
