An expired license plate led to the the arrest of an Ocala man driving without a license Sunday evening.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was on routine patrol in the 4000 block of NW Blichton Road when he observed a 1999 silver Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on NW Blichton Road, according to an arrest affidavit. The deputy observed the registration sticker located on the vehicle’s rear license plate that read “4/17” and searched the listed tag number through NCIC/FCIC, which confirmed the registration was expired for less than six months, the affidavit stated. The deputy activated his emergency lights as the vehicle was entering the southbound ramp onto State Road 93 and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, 48-year-old Harry Way of Ocala, who advised that he was recently stopped by another agency only a few hours before and was issued a court summons for driving without a valid driver’s license. The deputy asked Way if he had any identification or driver’s license, in which Way answered “no.”
A computer check through MCSO’s teletype operator showed that Way had no Florida license or ID card. It also showed that Way’s license was suspended for a prior driving while license suspended or revoke violation. It was also revealed that on March 2, 2016, Way had his license revoked for one year for a controlled substance violation.
Way was placed under arrest for driving without a valid license and was transported to the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $500.
