Richard Karle obituary

RICHARD H. KARLE, 86, Summerfield, FL passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013. He was born April 29, 1927 in Syracuse, NY, son of Rudolph B. and Leona Lunn Karle. Dick graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy, Syracuse, NY and attended Syracuse University. He was a retired food executive. Dick served in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Dick was in the food business throughout his life. Starting as a meat cutter, he progressed to meat manager and later progressed to store manager and district manager. At the time of his retirement, Dick was Secretary Treasurer/VP of Olean Wholesale in Olean, N.Y. Dick’s life centered around his family and his church. He was a Life Elder in the Presbyterian Church and was also active in the United Methodist Church. He served on the board of trustees for the Methodist District, he was a Sunday School Superintendent and a liaison between the church and the district office. Dick loved Methodist hymns and was there for the church whenever called upon. Instrumental in planning the new library in Cuba N.Y., Dick was also a member of the Cuba Lake Homeowners Association. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Diane (Gantley) Karle, five children, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Dicks sons are Richard H. Karle Jr. (Jill) of Birmingham, Alabama and Paul A. Karle of Fort Lauderdale, FL. His daughters are Deborah DeFouw (Richard) of Kentwood, Michigan, Kathy Lievense of Traverse City, Michigan and Elizabeth Wierda (James) of Jacksonville, Florida. The grandchildren are Megan Kaiser, Emily VanVliet, Andrew Lievense, Molly Howell, Karle Hunter, Alex Wierda, Jenna Wierda, Noah Karle, and Mia Karle. Dick is also survived by brother John (Doris) of Syracuse, N.Y. A memorial service will be held on Monday June 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel, Lady Lake, FL with Reverend Michael Fordham officiating. Inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, The Cuba Circulating Library in Cuba N.Y., or a charity of your choice. Dick will be remembered as a man of integrity, love, and influence to all who knew him.
