Teen arrested with drugs and loaded gun after crashing into deputy’s patrol car

Willie Johnell Goins

A teenager was arrested with drugs and a loaded gun after crashing into a law enforcement vehicle Sunday afternoon not far from Pinellas Plaza in The Villages.

A blue sport utility vehicle was spotted shortly before 3 p.m. at a house under construction on County Road 144 in Wildwood, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. As deputies moved in on the home, the SUV fled the scene and headed north on Powell Road. It then re-entered County Road 144 and made an aggressive maneuver toward one of the deputy’s patrol vehicles. The SUV suddenly stopped and another deputy’s vehicle struck its rear end. The SUV was placed into reverse and rammed the patrol vehicle causing about $2,000 in damage. The SUV was then deliberately struck by that patrol vehicle and immobilized. The vehicle’s three occupants were detained.

Marijuana was found in the vehicle along with a digital scale.

An unsecured EAA 9mm gun with a loaded magazine was found under the driver’s seat.

The driver, Willie Johnell Goins of Ocala, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed firearm, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana and fleeing a law enforcement officer. He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $28,000 bond.
