To the Editor:
Ron DeSantis reported that the Republican National Convention would hold its conference (or at least the major part of it) in Jacksonville. Republicans moved it from Charlotte, N.C. because the governor of North Carolina wouldn’t guarantee that conventioneers wouldn’t be required to wear masks and social distance as recommended by the CDC. Apparently DeSantis is fine with a no masks required policy and cramming as many delegates into the arena as possible.
No word yet on whether delegates will have to sign a waiver agreeing not to sue Donald Trump or the Republican Party in the event they get sick from Coronavirus as do attendees at Trump’s Tulsa rally in June.
On a related note, the day DeSantis announced the convention location, Florida reported its highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a single day. Maybe by agreeing to host the Republican convention in Florida, DeSantis is hoping to break that record.
