91-year-old husband asks for second kiss before fatally wounding himself in Mira Mesa

A 91-year-old husband asked for a second kiss from his wife before fatally wounding himself in the Village of Mira Mesa.

Police officers responded to a home on Del Mar Drive at about 1:30 p.m. April 20 to investigate the suicide.

The man’s wife was leaving to go to the grocery store when he asked her for a second kiss, “something he hadn’t done before,” according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When she arrived home, a neighbor was helping her with the groceries when she discovered her husband had shot himself in a guest room of their home.

The wife told police that her husband had struggled with poor eyesight, had trouble hearing and trouble getting around.

The Medical Examiner’s office responded to the scene.

A shotgun used in the incident was placed in a property locker at the police department.
