A sci-fi accident renders Adaline (Blake Lively) stuck at the age of 29. Oh, should anyone be so lucky! But Adaline recognizes that if she goes public with her ageless status, she may end up in a freak show at Barnum and Bailey’s. So every 10 years she moves, revamps her ID papers, and begins another life experience.
We find Adaline now chronologically at 80 years old, still caught in her 29 year old image. Her daughter (Ellen Burstyn) passes for her mother.
With a newfound romance budding, Adaline goes to her fiancé’s home to meet her beau’s parents. She recognizes his father as one of her former lovers. He (Harrison Ford) is awestruck by her resemblance to his past lover. Ford gives a performance that ensures an Oscar nomination for best supporting role.
All ends well, as it should in this finely portrayed story. A good balance between romance and intrigue is sure to please both genders. On that basis, “Age of Adaline” gets an A grade.
