A dog died in a fire Tuesday afternoon on the Historic Side of The Villages.
The dog’s owner, Don Jones, reportedly desperately wanted to get back into the manufactured home at 816 Weeping Willow Avenue, said Barb Sinclair, a next door neighbor.
“He was just beside himself,” Sinclair said.
But Jones’ primary concern had been getting his wife, Chris, who is disabled, out of the home first.
Sadly, the dog named Brandy, could not be saved.
The blaze broke out at about 1:30 p.m. The Villages Public Safety Department and Lake County Fire Rescue quickly responded to the fire.
The interior of the home sustained major damage.
Don and Chris Jones moved to The Villages from the Chicago area and are year-round residents.
This was the second fire in a week on the Historic Side of The Villages.
