To the Editor:
In a recent letter submitted to Villages-News the author stated, “Our president is responsible for these mail bombs sent to Democrats and CNN.” And on another website a poster wrote “He (Cesar Altieri Sayoc) was listed as a Green Party member and until a few hours ago had a website full of liberal rhetoric. I think this is a false flag and we have finally found the liberal willing to take one for the team. Until he came along all of the violence was coming from the left and the Democrats were losing ground all of the sudden this guy crops up and he just happens to be a rabid Trump supporter? Just look at that van who in the world in their right mind does something like that with the stickers and posters? It’s just screaming look at me I’m an unhinged Trump supporter. Right. This guy is a plant.”
To both of these responses I say the majority of the nation is sick of instant virtue and longs for symmetry. The fact of the matter is that Mr. Sayoc seems to be a troubled soul and as such he probably waxed and waned moving from one political position to another because of his instability. But even if that is not the entire story the fact of the matter is that we should all be responding as “Americans.”
In cases such as this no one has the higher moral ground because the higher moral ground belongs to all Americans and it’s called the rule of law. The rule of law applies to everyone irrespective of social-economic status, religion, political affiliation race or national origin.
The danger facing America today is that we have gone beyond the Marxist controlled tool referred to political correctness. We saw what happened to Jews in Nazi Germany. We are seeing the same sort of condemnation here in America where people are no longer free to express their views
There is something quite wrong when a Megyn Kelly or a Roseanne Barr have their lives totally destroyed over banality. One wonders where it will all end? What happened to “stick and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me”? Indeed “my name” can be a real issue and as such, as Americans, we have the protection of the tort law of liable and slander to defend ourselves. But my reference here is to the fake indignation made by some for political purposes only.
This ridiculous, childish and illogical push being made under the heading of identity politic is leading this nation down the road to perdition. It is an intentional attempt to abridge First Amendment rights under the cover of invented discrimination rights.
