20-year-old Palatka man killed in crash while fleeing sheriff’s deputy

A 20-year-old Palatka man was killed in a collision which occurred as he was fleeing pursuit by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Romeo Roddrick Staples had been driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder which collided with a vehicle driven by Arthur Chloen Elzie Young, 18, also of Palatka, at 10:37 p.m. Saturday in Putnam County, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 20-year-old passenger in Staples’ vehicle, Kebreceia J. Thompson of Defuniak Springs, suffered serious injuries and was taken to UF Health in Gainesville.

Young also suffered serious injuries and was taken to UF Health.
