A 26-year-old woman was arrested Monday morning after an altercation in the Village of Rio Ponderosa.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on Montoya Drive after a 911 call was received, but was interrupted.
When a deputy arrived, items were scattered in the front yard and the home was in disarray, according to an arrest report.
A woman told the deputy she had been attacked by Marissa Jade Thompson, who also lives at the residence. The woman called 911 when Thompson began breaking items in the home, the arrest report indicated. Thompson took the phone away from the woman and hung up while the 911 call was in progress.
Thompson told the deputy she was simply trying to use the phone and did not realize the victim was using it to call 911.
The victim’s boyfriend, who witnessed the incident, signed a sworn statement backing up the victim’s version of events.
Thompson was arrested on charges of battery and depriving use of 911. She was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
Thompson is currently facing unrelated charges in Lake County.
She is facing charges of organized fraud, intent to defraud and criminal mischief in connection with a September incident.
She is also facing a charge of petty larceny in connection with an Oct. 6 incident.
