Bicyclist hit and killed by teen driver in Citrus County

A bicyclist was hit and killed by a teen driver early Thursday in Citrus County.

At about 2:48 a.m., 18-year-old Josephine S. Van Loan of Homosassa was driving a Cadillac DeVille northbound on U.S. 19 at the intersection of Long Lake Avenue, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Loan’s vehicle struck 23-year-old bicyclist George A. Sanchez of Homosassa and came to a controlled stop while the bicyclist came to a final rest in the median.

Sanchez, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, died at the scene of the crash. Charges are pending.
