Richard Hancock has filed to run for Marion County Commission, District 5.
The seat is currently held by Earl Arnett
Hancock is the former CEO of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association.
“I believe I have the experience and the dedication to serve the citizens of Marion County,” said Hancock. “I have lived in Marion County for over 27 years. I have raised a family here, and I have spent the majority of my career right here in Marion County.”
He was born in Tulsa, Okla. and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Richard later received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University Of Tulsa College Of Law. Hancock served two terms in the Oklahoma House of Representatives and was appointed Chief Criminal Prosecutor in Northeastern Oklahoma. As a rancher, he owned and operated horse farms in both Oklahoma and Kentucky.
In 1988, Hancock accepted the position of CEO for the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association (FTBOA). For 23 years Richard Hancock served Florida’s Horse industry, overseeing the growth of the breeders’ incentive program from $3,000,000 to over $15,000,000 annually. Working with the FTBOA Board of Directors he worked to establish Florida Equine Publications, Florida Thoroughbred Charities, Florida Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, and obtained the Ocala Thoroughbred Racing permit.
He has lived in Marion County for three decades.
