Driver allegedly talking on cell phone when he hit 81-year-old Villager

A driver with an expired license was ticketed after hitting an 81-year-old pedestrian in the crosswalk at Publix at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

The Village of Hacienda woman who was struck shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital.

She was struck by a 2015 Kia Sportage driven by 44-year-old Jose Marcos Salinas of Leesburg. He told police he did not see the pedestrian crossing in front of him.
