Golf cart driver hits cyclist with beverage can in The Villages

A bicyclist called 911 after witnessing a man in a golf cart throw a beverage can at another bicyclist earlier this month.

Villager Dave Taylor and his wife witnessed the incident at 12:30 p.m. June 8 on Belvedere Boulevard near the Pimlico Recreation Center. Taylor described the golf cart driver as “a white 60ish heavy set male,” according to a letter he sent to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

“Cindy and I reversed direction, called 911 and followed the cart which made numerous turns through the neighborhood bounded by Belvedere Boulevard and Churchill Downs. Eventually the cart entered a golf course path from Churchill Downs and disappeared,” Taylor wrote in the letter.

The Sumter Landing Bicycle Club member went on to compliment the deputy who arrived on the scene and the 911 dispatcher.

The bicycle club has warned its members to be on the lookout for this golf cart driver and to be prepared to call 911.
