Commissioner Jimmy Conner passed the gavel to Commissioner Sean Parks as The Lake County Board of County Commissioners unanimously elected Parks to serve as chairman of the commission during the Dec. 1 board meeting. Commissioner Welton Cadwell was selected to serve as vice chairman.

“Lake County is a wonderful place to live and work, I think we can all agree to that. But I think we also agree that we’ve got more work to do,” said Parks. “As chairman, I will be a force in cultivating good on this board and developing our fullest potential that we collectively have to offer.”

Representing District 2 in South Lake, Chairman Parks was first elected to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners in 2010 and re-elected to his second term in 2014. He previously served on the Lake County Water Authority Board of Trustees from 2004-2008.

With a primary focus on economic development and prosperity, Chairman Parks also expressed his dedication to public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation and water resources.

A Central Florida native, Chairman Parks holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is certified as an urban and regional planner and is a Qualified Environmental Professional.  He has served as the Lake District Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America; a Board member to the Lake County Educational Foundation; a member of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s Economic Development Committee; and is a past Rotary Club President. Parks also owns and operates a small consulting business.

He and his wife, Ivy, are active in the community and attend and serve at the Church at South Lake, along with their three children.
