Nancy Jean Roche

On July 30, 2015, Nancy Roche passed away in Lady Lake, Florida at the end of a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was comforted by the love of friends and family. She was 82 years old. Nancy Roche was born August 15, 1932 to Fred and Ellamae Schulz in Santa Monica, California. She was born two years after her brother Paul. Nancy moved to Miami at a young age, and in this city she grew up. She graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School. She married Thomas White Roche and had two loving daughters. She began her career in the insurance industry and then worked for a public relations firm. After this, she worked briefly for an attorney. She joined Deltona Corporation on July 14, 1978. In her time there, she became President of Five Points Title Services, Co. She was the first female to hold an executive position at Deltona. She also served as President of Miami’s Title Association and Vice President of Florida Land Title Association. After 32 years of working there, she happily retired and began to focus on her hobbies. She loved the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, white water rafting, and had an incomparable green thumb. She deeply enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and frequently made trips to see her daughter and grandchildren. After retiring, she participated weekly in a card club with her friends. She was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed listening to music by Just Mike. Over the course of her life, Nancy saw many sights. Her mother, employed by Pan-Am, took her all over the world, from New York to Tokyo. She went all over the states, from bucket list trips to Alaska to fly-fishing in Montana. She was born in California, lived in Miami, and relocated to Lady Lake, Florida. She found beauty wherever she went and brought out the best in those she met. She was kind, compassionate, and caring. Nancy was a stellar example of an altruistic soul. She left a positive impact in the hearts of everyone she met. She was the sort of person one strives to be. The best mother in the world, she loved her daughters and grandchildren endlessly. Her heart held no anger nor hatred. She was a truly loving person and will be greatly loved and missed. Nancy was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas Roche; her grandmother, Ethel Hand; her mother, Ellamae Schulz; and her brother, Paul Schulz. Nancy is survived by: her daughters, Kathy Ewbank and Peggy Surgeoner; her grandchildren, Donald and Danielle Surgeoner; and her dearest friends, Shirlee Provan, Maureen Bourcier and Geri Carapazza. Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, Florida, on Thursday, August 6 at 8:30 a.m. Entombment will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, August 7 at 1 p.m. Donations may be made in her honor to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, at sylvester.org, an organization she supported for many years.
