Ocala police officer dies after accidental shooting at gun range

A 33-year-old Ocala police officer died two and a half hours after an accidental shooting at a gun range on Monday.

Jared Forsyth had been transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center after the accidental shooting at 3 p.m. at the gun range at Lowell Correctional Institute.

Forsyth joined the Ocala Police Department on April 16, 2012.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called in to investigate the shooting.
