The chief medical officer of The Villages Health is suing his former employer for $600,000.

Jeffrey Lowenkron, former head of the USF Physicians Group, is suing the University of South Florida for the hundreds of thousands of dollars he claims he is owed in severance pay, according to documents filed in Hillsborough County Court.

Originally, Lowenkron came with Elliot Sussman from USF to The Villages as part of the USF Health initiative.

After sinking $5 million into The Villages effort, USF quietly pulled the plug last year.

Lowenkron and Sussman ultimately moved over to The Villages’ payroll and stuck with The Villages Health system. Sussman now serves as chairman of The Villages Health.

According to court documents, Lowenkron is claiming that the university has failed to pay him the $600,000 in severance he is owed, the equivalent of about 20 weeks of pay. His maximum annual salary was $870,00 with incentives. He resigned this past December.

Lowenkron joined USF Health in January 2012 after working in the mid-Atlantic states for 17 years.
