William G. Campbell

William G. Campbell

William (Bill) G. Campbell, 76, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on December 26th, 2018. The funeral service will be held on January 4th, 2019 at 11 am at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Bill was born on April 23rd, 1942 in Chicago Illinois to Evelyn Franczyk and Thomas Campbell. He married Nancy Yakubin on December 30th 1961. Together, they raised 6 children, all boys, who went on to foster 15 grandchildren, Bill’s pride and joy.

Bill was patriotic and gave back to the community. He started his professional career by serving his country in the U.S. Army. Known as “Soupy”, Lieutenant Campbell then served for 30 years in the Chicago Fire Department and also represented other firemen as the union’s business agent. While not climbing tall ladders and putting out fires, Bill coached, umpired and refereed numerous events for the family and community.

In 1997, Bill and Nancy retired and moved to Leesburg, shortly followed by two of his sisters. Some of his fondest memories are with the local slow-pitch softball teams and companionship he found around a friendly game of cards. Bill was quick witted, enjoyed sports, lotteries, cooking, but most of all his family. Not long ago, he mentioned the thing he would miss most after passing away is voting. His sister kindly reminded him he was from Chicago, and that wouldn’t be a problem!

William G. Campbell truly appreciated good service and was thoughtful on tipping, even for the smallest assistance. Using a lesser-common currency, he was known around Leesburg as $2 Bill.

He is predeceased by his wife Nancy and brother Tom. Bill is survived by his sisters; Lana, Carolyn and Marge, his brother Bob, and his sons; Bob, Bill, Tom, Dan, Dave, and James.
