Florida Health Department’s COVID-19 list clarifies case at Buffalo Crossings

A Florida Department of Health report listing long-term care facilities and nursing homes where COVID-19 cases have been confirmed has been updated with regards to Buffalo Crossings in The Villages.

Wednesday’s government-generated report clarifies that the Coronavirus issue involved Buffalo Crossings Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, not Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living, which was named in the original report this past weekend.

Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered that the list be released during his daily briefing this past Saturday. It also includes Serenades Memory Care and Assisted Living at The Villages and Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell.

The report doesn’t specify how many people tested positive at each facility, nor whether they are residents or staff members. But another report released late Wednesday afternoon says five residents or staff members of long-term care facilities in Sumter County have tested positive for the potentially deadly virus.

Three facilities in Lake County and two in Marion County also are among those on the list but none are in the local area. No deaths have been reported at any of the facilities in The Villages or the tri-county area.

On Tuesday, Premier Medical Associates started COVID-19 testing at assisted living facilities in The Villages. The healthcare provider – the first in The Villages to offer drive-through testing for patients showing symptoms – kicked off the effort with two days of testing at the skilled nursing facility at Buffalo Crossings. Testing at Sumter Place in The Villages and Sumter Grand will take place Thursday and Friday, with others, including Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living, to take place in the near future.
