Summerfield habitual traffic violator nabbed driving without license

Patrick J. Smith

A Summerfield man who lives just outside the walls of The Villages was jailed early Sunday morning after he was spotted driving with an expired license tag.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped the dark green Chevrolet that was being driven by 50-year-old Patrick Joseph Smith in the 11400 block of SE Hwy. 42 in Weirsdale. He asked Smith for his driver’s license and he said he didn’t have one because it was suspended, a sheriff’s office report states.

A records check showed that Smith’s license had been:

  • Suspended indefinitely on July 20, 2015;
  • Suspended indefinitely on Oct. 7, 2017 for failure to pay a court financial obligation;
  • Suspended indefinitely on Nov. 28, 2017 for failure to pay a court financial obligation;
  • Canceled indefinitely on Jan. 3, 2018;
  • Suspended and revoked for 60 months on Jan. 29, 2018 for being a habitual traffic violator;
  • Suspended indefinitely on Feb. 12, 2018 for failure to pay a traffic fine;
  • Suspended indefinitely on March 27, 2018 for failure to pay a fine;
  • Suspended indefinitely on April 30, 2018 for failure to pay a court financial obligation;
  • Suspended indefinitely on July 12, 2018 for failure to pay a court financial obligation; and
  • Suspended indefinitely on Aug. 28, 2018 for failure to pay a fine.

Smith, who lives at 16700 U.S. 301 in Summerfield, was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving with license suspended or revoked (habitual). His bond also was revoked on a past charge of driving while license suspended. He was being held on $4,000 bond and is due in court July 21 at 9 a.m.
