Watchful Villagers recently welcomed new arrivals at their homes here in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.
Dale and Rita Heins were delighted to discover baby bunnies nestled in a planter box at their home in the Village of Sunset Pointe.
Dale planted tomatoes on April 1. The couple first noticed the bunnies on April 5. They were gone by April 13.
“Guess they had a job to do for Easter!” said Rita.
Famous for their reproductive abilities, Cottontail Rabbits breed from February through September. Gestation is about 28 days. Three or four litters of up to four or five young known as kittens are born each year. Young are born helpless in a shallow depression lined with grass and mother’s fur, but they grow rapidly and are weaned when less than half the size of the adult.
Meanwhile, Ed and Ronnie Sullivan recently welcomed some newborn doves at their home in the Village of Bonita
They had spotted a dove nesting in a jade pot in the breezeway at their home. They were thrilled when the babies arrived.
Ed Sullivan recently penned an Opinion piece, angry about a solicitor at his home who brushed right by the nesting dove. You can read his Opinion piece HERE
