K-9 assists in arrest of Wildwood man found to be in possession of marijuana at Motel 6

Joseph Scott Roderick

A K-9 assisted in the arrest of a Wildwood man found to be in possession of marijuana at Motel 6 on State Road 44 in Lake Panasoffkee.

Joseph Scott Roderick, 32, had been a passenger in a white Chevy Impala that pulled into the motel’s parking lot at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

As the couple went into Room 153, a deputy discovered that Roderick had been trespassed from the motel.

A K-9 alerted on the vehicle, prompting a search which led to the discovery of a bag of marijuana.

“It’s mine,” Roderick told the deputy.

The woman denied ownership of the marijuana.

Roderick was arrested on charges of trespassing and possession of marijuana. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
