Water meter reading policy to change in wake of last year’s Hurricane Irma

The Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors this week will consider a policy change with regard to water meter reading in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

“As recently experienced, the District and its contractor may be unable to read water meters as scheduled during inclement weather and other uncontrollable situations,” District Manager Janet Tutt wrote in a memo to board members.

The amended policy provides that, in applicable situations, the Finance Department will have the ability to reschedule the meter reads or estimate the reads. You can read the entire document at: Administrative Policy Meter Reads

In the event that an estimate is used for certain routes, a true-up will be applied as necessary to the customer’s future billing cycle, Tutt wrote in the memo.

The administrative policy applies to water and irrigation services and billing provided by the Village Center Community Development District and the North Sumter County Utility Dependent District.

The VCCDD board is scheduled to discuss the matter at its meeting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the District Office at Lake Sumter Landing.
