Community Development District 3 looking for applicants to fill seat vacated by death of supervisor

Marie McAvoy

Community Development District 3 is looking for applicants to fill a seat left vacant by the death of a supervisor.

Supervisor Marie McAvoy died unexpectedly June 15. About two and a half years remain in her term.

CDD 3 Supervisors Tilman Dean, Gail Lazenby and Bill Ray said they have been approached by residents curious about the process to replace McAvoy.

The board agreed to seek applicants and will make an appointment to serve out the remainder of the term.

Lazenby called for a wide net to be cast as a replacement is sought, including spreading the news via bulletin boards at postal stations, the newspaper and Villages-News.com.

There was some hesitancy about spending money on advertising in the Daily Sun.

“We have stepped away from placing ads in the newspaper because we don’t get a lot of response,” said Board Secretary Jennifer McQueary.

Applications will be reviewed and an appointment likely will be made at the Aug. 10 meeting.

When the application becomes available, Villages-News.com will publish it online.
