Owner wants to convert La Hacienda Hotel to townhome/condiminums

The owner of La Hacienda Hotel in Spanish Springs is planning to convert the hotel to townhome/condiminums and individually sell them off.

Larry Ducat was successful in the first step in the plan Monday night when he won the approval of the Lady Lake Planning and Zoning Board.

At one point, Ducat owned the Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Suites hotels in the Spanish Springs area, in addition to La Hacienda Hotel.

He has since sold the Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Suites.

“My father is 89 years old,” Ducat said. “So we want to part with some of these properties.”

La Hacienda Hotel was the original hotel in The Villages. It was built in two stages in 1996 and 1997.

Now Ducat wants to convert the 48 hotel rooms to 48 townhome/condominiums.

He plans to market them to Villagers who have frequent guests visiting and to snowbirds.

The units will have one bedroom and one bathroom.

The next step is the Lady Lake Commission in November.

If all goes as plan, construction could begin in early 2015.

La Hacienda Hotel is located at 1201 Avenida Central, next to the Holiday Inn Express.
