A Village of Santo Domingo man has been sentenced to 21 months in state prison after he was arrested earlier this year for driving drunk in a golf cart.

Roland Edward Richardson, 58, entered a plea of no contest to a charge of driving under the influence on June 13 in Sumter County Court. It was his fourth DUI.

Richardson has been behind bars since his Feb. 19 arrest by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies. He was arrested after a golf cart accident at Morse Boulevard and Rio Grande Avenue. Richardson was still at the wheel of the golf cart when deputies arrived. He told deputies he had been on his way home from work when a vehicle turned in front of him and his golf cart struck that vehicle in the side. In the golf cart, two empty bottles of cold medicine and one partially consumed bottle of Skol vodka were found. A pair of breath tests showed that Richardson had a blood alcohol level of .248 and .240. To read more about his arrest in February, click HERE
