The case for golf cart seatbelts

To the Editor:

A letter to the editor in Villages-News.com stating the case for NOT installing/wearing seat belts in golf carts is prompting me to respond.
A few years ago I did some research on golf cart seatbelts. In gathering the information I talked to industry experts, forensic safety engineers (they analyze accidents, often for expert testimony/product liability purposes), and the golf cart manufacturers (those that would discuss).
In the past, based on what I learned, I was able to provide some background information to the Sumter County Sheriff’s department and in particular the POA and VHA.
