An 86-year-old Belleview man was arrested after he allegedly shot a woman and killed her dog.
At around 9 a.m. Monday, Marion County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 6211 SE 126th St. in Belleview in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found the 58-year-old woman outside of her residence suffering from two gunshot wounds. She told deputies that her neighbor, Robert Lockhart shot her and fatally shot her dog. Upon learning this information, deputies made contact with Lockhart, who is also the woman’s uncle, at his residence next door and took him into custody. The victim was transported to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
Neighbors who witnessed the shooting told MCSO Major Crimes detectives that Lockhart exited his residence, walked over to the victim’s home, and waited outside for her to return. When the victim arrived at her residence, Lockhart took out his handgun, pointed it at the victim and began shooting at her and her dog. While the victim was lying in her driveway suffering from gunshot wounds, Lockhart went back to his residence and then returned to the victim’s home in an attempt to shoot her a second time. His weapon did not function during the second attempt to attack the victim. Lockhart then returned to his residence and peacefully surrendered to deputies when they arrived on scene.
Lockhart was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
