A man driving on a suspended license was arrested along with his girlfriend after drugs were discovered during a traffic stop Tuesday on U.S. 301.

William Dale Moshier, 32, of Fruitland Park was driving a silver Buick southbound on U.S. 301 when he was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy.

The deputy discovered that in 2015, Moshier’s driver’s license had been suspended for 60 months and that he has been classified as a habitual offender.

Moshier had five individual clear plastic Ziploc bags containing marijuana in a backpack, according to an arrest report. Also inside the back pack were six “vape” cartridges with THC oil. He had $490 concealed under the front seat of the vehicle.

He claimed he was taking his passenger, 20-year-old Kyriea Whitney Scott, on a trip for her birthday and he was hiding the money from her. Her birthday is Nov. 22, according to the arrest report.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered in Scott’s purse.

Both were taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Moshier posted $8,500 bond and was released. Scott is free on $1,500 bond.
