To the Editor:
After readiing today’s article on saving seats, I made a few calls to find out the official policy. I spoke with Barbara Vesco in the Entertainment Office. She said there has been a “no saving seat policy” for years, and that her office has been unable to enforce it, although they have tried numerous ways and times. She said she continues to look for ways to enforce the policy, and looks to peer pressure to solve the issue. I believe she is just as exasperated as most of us are about the seat saving issue.
The problem is seat saving prior to the start of an event. My belief is most folks agree with no seat saving, but don’t feel supported enough to envoke peer pressure. Her office should remove all saved seats just prior to the start of any entertainment. Then monitor it with enough staff for a period of time so folks feel supported in using peer pressure to keep seat saving from continuing. I believe a combination of official enforcement and peer pressure can resolve this issue.
