A Villager and her boyfriend have not been charged following an incident in which the Lake County Sheriff’s Office bloodhound was called into investigate an overturned golf cart.
The overturned golf cart was discovered early Sunday morning by a pond on the west side of the golf cart bridge over U.S. Hwy. 27/441. At the scene, Lady Lake police found clothing, two cell phones and a wallet. The identification found inside the wallet led police to a home on East Schwartz Boulevard where a 44-year-old woman resides. The woman’s mother identified one of the cell phones as belonging to her daughter and the other belonging to her daughter’s 47-year-old boyfriend who resides on Alandari Lane in The Villages.
Several units from the sheriff’s office, including a bloodhound, joined in the search for the occupants of the golf cart.
At about 3 a.m., police received a tip that a woman was knocking on doors on Magnolia Avenue in The Villages asking for a ride.
When police located the pair, both denied any knowledge of the overturned golf cart. The incident report indicated that the pair appeared to be intoxicated.
During the course of the investigation, Villages security informed police that several fence posts on the east side of the golf cart path had been damaged. The damage appeared to have been caused by the golf cart, the incident report indicated.
The couple was not charged.
The golf cart was towed from the scene by Kling Towing.
