A stretcher used to transport bodies was stolen over the weekend from a vehicle at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in The Villages.
The theft was reported early Sunday morning to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The theft was reported from the Hiers-Baxley facility at 1511 Buenos Aries Blvd. in The Villages.
A passenger window was broken out of the window of a Hiers-Baxley van and the stretcher was removed.
The stretcher has a value of $2,000, according to the report from the sheriff’s office. The damage to the van’s window was estimated at $360.
A similar incident was reported at another Hiers-Baxley location in Marion County.
