A woman was taken by ambulance Tuesday afternoon from a campground in Sumter County after a brawl over money.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 2 p.m. to the Hog Island Campground on SW 90th Avenue in Bushnell. A man who had suffered injuries to his face and chest, told deputies that 46-year-old Michele Yvette Souders came at him with a cane during a fight over money which had escalated during the day. The man said he “snapped” and began to fight back with his fists.

Souders had already been loaded into the back of an ambulance and was transported to a local hospital before being placed under arrest on a charge of aggravated battery.  She had previously been convicted of battery in 1994.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
