Man arrested on DUI charge in golf cart at Publix
Christopher Holton

A 33-year-old man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence when he was discovered lying in golf cart in the parking lot of a Publix.

Christopher Shane Holton of Middleburg was found at 9:16 p.m. Wednesday by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy who was responding to a drunk driving complaint at the Publix at 1566 Bella Cruz Drive.

When the deputy approached Holton and asked if he could speak with him, Holton responded, “Yes, but you should know I am very drunk,” according to the arrest report.

He also told the deputy he had consumed “about a half gallon of whiskey and three or four cases of beer,” the arrest report indicated.

A criminal history check showed Holton had three previous DUI convictions, two in Georgia and one in Florida.

He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $10,000
