A law enforcement report is shedding more light on the arrest of a 74-year-old Village of Liberty Park man who was armed with a gun when he paid an unwanted visit on a Village of Amelia woman.

George Nelson Lowe is facing charges of battery, burglary and kidnap/false imprisonment, following his arrest Monday at his home on Thurmond Avenue.

The woman went to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Annex on County Road 466 and filed a report indicating that Lowe had entered her home by accessing the keypad for her garage. He was reportedly armed with a .38-caliber Taurus revolver. He then held the woman down on the bed and kissed her several times. He would not let her leave the bedroom, the report indicated. Lowe told the woman he was going to take her to his residence and they were going to “die together” in his vehicle in his garage. She was eventually able to convince him to leave.

Deputies went to Lowe’s home at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and took possession of his firearm. They then transported him to the sheriff’s annex for an interview. He admitted entering the woman’s home with the gun and kissing her, but he claimed the woman kissed him back. He said he told the woman he would kill himself, but denied telling the woman he would kill her along with himself.

Lowe told the deputy doing the interview that he was “sorry” but he could not control himself. He also admitted he took the gun along because he wanted to intimidate the woman.

It is the second arrest this year involving an armed Villager pursuing a woman who did not return his affections. You can read about the other case HERE
