A caregiver in the Village of Collier was arrested after she attempted to pass off a leafy substance in a coffee can as medical marijuana.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday to a residence on Neaptide Path when they learned that 51-year-old Tracy Friedman was staying at the home in violation of a court order. The homeowner said she had invited Friedman to move in and act as her caregiver, in spite of the court order to stay away from the homeowner.
When a deputy informed Friedman that she was going to be placed under arrest, she went to her bedroom and closed the door. When a deputy went into the bedroom, he saw Friedman carrying a large bong, according to the arrest report. The deputy also spotted a Folger’s coffee can containing a green leafy substance. There was more than 20 grams of the substance, the arrest report indicated.
When asked what it was, Friedman replied, “It’s medical marijuana.”
She was arrested on a felony charge of possession of marijuana, possession of drug equipment and violation. She was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
