At the urging of John Wilcox, members of the Community Development District 3 board voted Friday to move forward this year with road resurfacing in Villa Berea.
“I really feel the condition of the road in our development is one of the worst,” said Wilcox, a member of The Villages Amenity Authority Committee. ”It has crumbled since the beginning.”
The road was scheduled for work next year, but the board voted to move up the project with money from the district’s reserve fund, which will be reimbursed in next year’s budget.
CDD 3 vice chairman Gail Lazenby said the road could be improved by vacuuming the loose stone.
“I do have some difficulty with moving up (the project),” he said.
But Lazenby offered his support after Supervisor Steffan Franklin said he did not believe vacuuming would solve the problem.
“It’s not just the loose stone,” Franklin said. “I don’t think it can wait for a whole year.”
Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said the road received a single micro-surfacing in 2010-11 and that the loose stone actually is the road surface wearing away.
“We can go in quarterly and clean the road until the project,” he said.
Wartinbee said he will ask the contractor working on other Villages resurfacing projects to put Villa Berea on the list.
