Dumbfounded over concern about dogs at Freedom Pointe

To the Editor:

I have to say I am dumbfounded by the concern over dogs using Freedom Pointe in the evenings. It is not just a place where dogs averaging under 20 pounds are allowed to exercise, but a place where the owners look forward to talking and getting together.  We have met numerous friends and simply don’t understand the need for a fence costing $20,000 to build.
The field, and I use it as an accurate description having grown up on a farm, does not appear to have any use other than what it was intended.  It has little value or I am sure that by now it would have more homes on it.  Second, there are no homes around it so the idea that a dog urinating on the field has a concern for others makes little sense.  I totally agree that if a dog owner lets his or her animal do its duty on your yard and does not pick up the release, you have every right to complain, but to make the same analogy to a field is reaching a long way.  By the way, each of us watch our dogs and if one does its duty and we don’t see someone else in the group reminds them so it is cleaned up.  As far as dog parks are concerned, the one at Paradise is not acceptable because of the distance and shade conditions.  The one at Mulberry has no shade. If you don’t like animals that is obviously your right, but since I enjoy my animal and the many friends I have met without causing you a problem on your property please give that some consideration.
